Hovingham is a beautiful village, rated as one of the 12 best places to live in the country. Many residents chose Hovingham because of its natural beauty, attractive buildings and the pride and care that’s taken by the community.
The Hovingham Action Group was formed following a comprehensive and successful Community Plan in 2009, supported by over 80% of households. Many residents have already joined various community projects and the pool of volunteers contribute their time, as and when they can. But we would like to attract more volunteers. Valuable work experience for younger residents can also be offered.
What can I do to help?
Whatever time you can contribute will be valuable to the community and help maintain the beauty and unique character of our village. You can contribute as much or as little as you can.
One of the major successes in recent years has been the Hovingham Village Market. People come from far and wide to attend the monthly market which takes place on the first Saturday of each month from February to December, with an additional special Christmas Market on the third Saturday of December. The Market benefits our local community and local businesses providing local produce and crafts.
Volunteers staff the cafes, help set up and take down stalls, welcome visitors, promote the market etc etc. If you would like to offer your views and experience, or help organise, please get in touch. Contact themarket@hovingham.org.uk
Another highlight of Hovingham is the Playground which is situated in a beautiful position on the outskirts of the village. Facilities are monitored for safety reasons and any help you can provide with regular tasks and inspections would be appreciated. The Hovingham Village Playgroup normally meet each Wednesday morning in the village hall, an excellent opportunity for babies and toddlers to get together!!
The Hovingham Village Diary is produced weekly; containing details of events and news for Hovingham and local area. If you would like to receive a copy then register on the Village Diary page or email diary@hovingham.org.uk.
Other opportunities include litter picking, sign clearing, bulb planting and snow clearing. If you have any questions or want to chat about how this could work for you, then please contact Ann Chapman (627171), Caroline Davis (628413) or email action@hovingham.org.uk
